WELCOME!
Hello and welcome to Youniversal Coaching, where it is all about YOU! I am so happy you have stopped by! My name is Dr. Trish and I am an occupational therapist and professional life coach. I specialize in helping clients build resilience and create sustainable mental health routines in order to have greater satisfaction in life.
As an occupational therapist, adaptation is a core concept at the heart of opportunity, possibility and success. How well we function in life is a very personal and individual experience. I focus on helping clients adapt their mindset as a means to improve mental health and wellness, and self-efficacy.
As a coach, I work collaboratively with you as a partner in the process of creating meaningful goals that move you closer to the life you want to live. Together we identify the steps needed to achieve these goals one choice and one action step at a time.
"Mental clutter" is a huge barrier to mindful, present and forward thinking. It can cause anxiety, depression, self-sabotage, and resistance to flexibility; not to mention how it impacts our external environment with physical clutter. Many of us are mental "hoarders" of the traumas and experiences of our past. We are afraid to release associated thoughts and feelings for fear of loss of identify and loss of comfortable mental habits. Yes! believe it or not, people sometimes choose to hold onto pain because it is an unconscious comfortable habit. Fear of the unknown can stop us in our tracks and keep us living in 'what we know.' There is comfort in knowing where you've been. Yet, many people desire to move beyond the past in order to develop better relationships, take more risks, build self-esteem, and find greater joy in daily life.
By focusing on resilience, we begin to realize how strong and determined we really are. The question is, "Do you want to just survive or do you want to thrive?"
All it takes is to ask yourself one question.....
"On a scale of 1-10 (1 being not at all; 10 being completely dedicated to the process), how motivated are you to improve your life?"
*If you answered any other number besides #1, you may be a good fit for coaching! (In fact, even if you answered #1, that could even be explored further :-)
My role as a coach is to help you:
- Gain clarity on what you are choosing,
- Define what you would like to achieve or explore,
- Identify what is getting in your way,
- Help you to create options and possibilities by taking achievable action steps towards your desire(s),
- And help you learn ways to be accountable to yourself without judgment.

MY TRAINING
Dr. Trish began her career path in holistic healthcare as a Licensed Massage Therapist in 1993. This was the first inspired action step she took on her journey to explore alternative methods of mind-body-spirit healing. After approximately 3 years, she merged that knowledge with Occupational Therapy practice, ultimately obtaining her doctoral degree. She has been working in the field of OT for over 23+ years and coaching for 6+ years.
Dr. Trish Specializes in helping her clients:
-
Improve physical, mental, emotional, and social skill development and refinement
-
Establish positive habits and routines
-
Understand sensory hypo- and hyper-sensitivity regulation management and its connection to mental-emotional health in daily life
-
Incorporate the role of spirituality (meaning and purpose) in the client's quest for life fulfillment.
In addition to traditional work in occupational therapy, Dr. Trish embraced the role of educator and administrator in higher education. These roles fueled her passion even more to use her depth of knowledge in human development, emotional intelligence, mental health and the impact of life transitions on quality of life.

Dr. Trish has presented at numerous professional OT conferences in New York and New Jersey on the topics of Spirituality, Mental Health, Sensory Processing and Emotional Regulation, and the Occupation of Human Potential, which continues to be in the works as a novel approach to helping people live their best lives.
Championing the roles of supervisor, mentor, director, and public speaker of various healthcare and educational topics, Dr. Trish chose to further expand and integrate her education and training. She obtained certifications in health and professional life coaching in order to deliver authentic client-centered services as an alternative option to traditional mental health and wellness self-care options. With additional training as a certified core dynamics transitions specialist, Dr. Trish focuses on how the impact of change, whether it is imposed upon us or self- chosen, can either enhance or disrupt our life's balance.
The broad array of medical, educational, leadership and administrative experiences that Dr. Trish has embraced motivate her desire to work with individuals who feel they want to change or improve their life circumstances, yet struggle with the self-confidence and action plans to do so.
"It's time to start advocating for your assets, and release your limitations."

KAWA
The Kawa model is a model that uses the metaphor of a river with different contextual elements to represent human life. The key features of the Kawa model include water, the river sidewall and bottom, rocks, driftwood, and space between obstructions. Water represents a client’s life flow or life energy. The river sidewall and bottom reflects a client’s physical and social contexts which are inseparable with the water flow. Rocks represent the problems or difficult situations that hinder smooth water flow and they are usually difficult to remove. Driftwood represents a client’s personal attributes and resources. Most importantly, the space between obstructions is the current life flow of the client, which represents the opportunities available for healing, productivity, and expansion of the self. In particular, the Kawa model reflects the Eastern culture that a person is inter-related within their environment rather than an independent self. It emphasizes the harmony between the person and environmental factors, and believes that the harmony of elements will enhance well-being.
Dr. Trish will use the Kawa model to understand your life experiences, help to prioritize your challenges, and maximize potential opportunities that will improve your life's flow. The information will help to widen the space for your life flow without completely removing the other elements in the river and, eventually, you will have a stronger and smoother life. As part of Trish's unique coaching approach, she uses the KAWA model theory in conjunction with Core Energy Coaching techniques. The river metaphor will provide relatable connections to your world and offer opportunities for Trish to authentically coach you toward an improved, less stressful, and happier life.
"When you focus on problems, you will get more problems. When you focus on possibilities, you will have more possibilities."

Services
Youniversal Coaching offers a comprehensive process to improving your quality of life using an authentic client-centered approach at the forefront of the coaching process. The integration of occupational therapy and professional coaching affords the client a deeper experience of learning who they are as an ‘occupational being,’ helps them to explore and clarify what they want and need to ‘do’ in life that brings them joy, and ultimately teaches clients how to be mentally, emotionally, and behaviorally adaptive in daily life experiences. This is the key to improving self-esteem, emotional regulation, and task performance in order to achieve greater levels of life satisfaction.
Life Coaching
Life coaching helps individuals identify, clarify, and create personal and professional goals and develop an actionable plan to achieve them. The life coaching process encourages the client’s self-discovery of values, beliefs, strengths and aspirations. One of the most effective explorations of life coaching is that it acknowledges, supports, and guides the client through their “blind spots” (we all have them!) in order to empower growth.

Transitions Coaching
Transformational coaching involves helping people better themselves and their lives by bringing about necessary changes. In addition to exploring the way clients think, feel, and act, transitions coaching works on changing the way they see themselves. I am your coach and your partner during this intense time of hard work and transition. You are the expert of you, you are responsible for knowing yourself. My expertise is powerful questioning, and change management. I am your accountability partner during this time. My education, knowledge, experience, skills and training all come into play to help you succeed.
Energy Leadership Index (ELI)
The ELI is an attitudinal assessment which is based on an energy/action model. This assessment differs from personality assessments. The ELI measures your level of energy based on your attitude, or perception and perspective of your world. Energy Leadership refers to the process of leading energy so that it works for you, rather than against you. The Core Energy Coaching process uses the ELI as an awareness tool to help increase your ability to shift your own energy and the energy of those around you. Energy is categorized into catabolic and anabolic. Catabolic energy is draining, resisting, and contracting energy. It can be distracting and act like a blinder through which you see only a limited view of a situation. Anabolic energy is constructive, expanding, fueling, healing and growth oriented. It helps you to move forward and have a more complete view of what is going on in and around you. Anabolic energy contributes to a smoother process of helping the client more easily come up with solutions by tapping into the client's curiosity of what 'could be'. The ELI provides insights into how much catabolic and anabolic energy you have. It also indicates how you show up in various aspects of your life and measures how involved or engaged you are in your roles and tasks in personal and professional situations. The ELI illustrates your energetic reaction to stress so that you can recognize and (if desired) modify that reaction.

Energy Leadership Development System
The Energy Leadership Development System (ELDS) is a complete client program that focuses on the “doing” topics that clients might bring to coaching. The program is broken down into 12 individual segments on a variety of topics such as leadership strengths and gaps, removing barriers to success, dynamic communication, problem solving, and time management, among others. The content of the ELDS program focuses on helping clients create that powerful WHAT (do I want) and HOW (..am I going to achieve what I want) in multiple life aspects.

Mindfulness in Coaching

Mindfulness is an ancient concept derived from the Pali word sati, which can be translated as presence of mind. Mindfulness involves purposefully paying attention to the present moment in a curious, open way without judgment. Mindfulness and coaching are like chocolate and peanut butter, they go well together! Coaching helps individuals to become more aware of what they are thinking, feeling, and perceiving. It is an active, mindful process which provides great insight into how we ‘show up’ in our daily life situations.
Coaching is an evidence-based, interpersonal process used to engage clients in developing their own self-care tool box and using those tools effectively. It facilitates safe passage for people facing personal transitions. Coaching can also help clients initiate and sustain behavior changes that achieve outcomes such as
-
Effective self-care,
-
Decreased perceived stress,
-
Improved quality of life (QOL),
-
Increased self-efficacy.
-
Improved relationships
-
Greater life satisfaction in any or all of the following:
-
work/life balance, work/school relationships, financial status, family relationships, feelings of personal freedom, time management, physical health, leadership ability, and community support, and more...
-

One of the tools that I use as a coach to help clients achieve these outcomes is mindfulness. Evidence shows that mindfulness can reduce stress and promote self-care and QOL in a variety of clinical and healthy populations. Mindfulness can be taught and implemented regardless of a patient’s race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. It is a tool that needs no equipment and can be used at a moment's notice.
In the literature, mindfulness is shown to significantly decrease emotional exhaustion and increase job and relationship satisfaction. Mindfulness coaching tools are effective in reducing a variety of psychological challenges (stressors) including anxiety, depression, and trauma. Mindfulness approaches help manage a variety of mental stressors such as depression, social anxiety, relationship conflict, anger, coping, and the stress of long-term caregiving.
